Is it at all possible to find a way to do a clipping mask or compound path after you use the mesh tool on an object? I have an oval with mesh and type in outlines on top and I need a way to delete the type outlines out so that it is also deleted from the oval. I can't use pathfinder with the mesh but I assume there has to be a way, I just can't seem to find it. Is it possible to use the opacity mask on something like this and how would I do so?

Hi Kara, I've used clipping and opacity masks with mesh objects, so it's certainly possible. You need to make the shape for the mask and place it one level above the object to be masked. Then, select both objects and choose, OBJECT>Clipping mask>make from the top menu.

This is an album cover I'm working on. The Skull is gradient mesh and his eyes and head are masked:

There is a lot more mesh in the drawing as well.

yeah the mask(ing) object needs to be on top of the other objects. and if you are trying to mask multiple objects group them before doing so.
