I'm creating a page for podcasts, and have 2 options for each show, play (stream) which works fine, and download. The link is just a regular mp3 link (http://www.chickenwingtv.com/audio/experiencenew.mp3) But people are complaining to my partner that they cannot download the mp3s in firefox and on a mac.

I put instructions on the page for people to right click the link and choose "save file, or target as" and for mac people to hold control and click.. Partner says there must be a better way, because people just dont understand how to do it.

Told him it was a user problem, how they have their browser configured to handle mp3 links. Is there a different way? Not sure if I even want to get into zipping them, if they cant figure out how to save a download link.

There is no way that i know off, or have seen that can force it to be downloaded. The best way i can think of doing it is to save them in a zip file as well, this way it will automatically download when they click the link, and also will create small file sizes.

I tried opening the .mp3 link using IE 7 and Firefox 2.0, it seems to work perfectly alright on both browsers.

Well I would think it's probably a user problem Wink Clicking on the link would result in the download window coming out right away, so I don't think there's any other way that's going to be any simpler. I'll have to agree with Flabby Rabbit that zipping's the next best way, and it's a commonly used method that works.

Thanks for the help.. Knew I was right. Don't really want to zip them, then I'd have to have two file formats of every show up there. I'm looking for a way to let people upload their audio, show description, and a picture themselves, so their section can be self maintained. What forum would I be able to get help with this in?

Right now, the new show link is just named whatevernew.mp3 and each week they upload it, and overwrite the old one. I then archive it, and add the description/picture.
