Hi there,
I'm currently on work experience for a design company and struggling on a task they have asked me to perform i need to cut out some people from separate images and merge them into one. they must be in DOB order.

and any advice/techniques would be very welcome, i have linked my best try, and the original photos.

Your cutting was crappy, and the shadows blew the effect. :s

I guess you should take more time to cut out the pictures. It's 95% of the job, the rest is peanuts.

What you did to balance the images seems alright ^^

cheers impulsive, what would u advise for cutting, i used the pen tool then used magic wand too to grab as much of the edges i could find.

is there any other way of cutting out images?

Yes: the long and satisfying way. Just use the Polygonal lasso tool. And find all the edges yourself. It's a long task, but with practice, it will give you a great result.

TIP: Zoom in far enough.... Find a balance between zoom, overview ^^

(sounds contradicted :p What I mean is, when you zoom in too far, you will have to pan much around to continue your selection. If you don't zoom in far enough, you will have hard time to find the points quickly...)

If you want to work in the industry you have to have patience. Your current attempt looks like the cutouts were made in half an hour. Experiment, attempt and merge.

To my it seems like they are made in 5 minutes :p...

Patience is a gift, so use it ^^... I agree with Etheryte...
