Your shadow looks odd because the light is coming from the right but the shadow is leaning towards the right. I would lower the transparency on the white layer on the ball but other that it looks great.

Hi Raven - nice attempt.

I hope you won't be offended by any of this, but I have a little advice to offer:

What the best logos have in common is that they're highly simplistic. They're designed for quick recognition and high legibility at a variety of distances and resolutions - so they use bold, solid lines and usually not more than 2 or 3 colours. Very few logos look good with raster effects (with the exception of Apple - I do admit), and I challenge you to find a good one that uses more than one font. It's also highly restrictive to design a logo that won't look any good on a white background.

When you're designing a logo you need to keep in mind that it may be reproduced in a variety of ways - it could be printed on a billboard at a huge size, or black and white on a fax letterhead. It might even be embossed onto a metal surface or embroidered onto a shirt.

These are all things to think about when you design a logo. I'm not trying to discourage you - I think it's great that you're trying and just wanted to provide a little constructive critique. Hope that's ok. Smile
