Folks I am a long time user of Fireworks and a very minor user in photoshop. I want to make a full conversion but I have one problem.

In fireworks I can click an object, text or whatever on the canvas and move it.

In photoshop I have to click the object under the layers section to move just that one or the whole layer moves if I do not.

How can I get this same type of option in photoshop that I do in fireworks?

Thanks for any help you folks can give. I still have a lot to learn in photoshop.

can't. Just how it works. The reason why?

Fireworks is more similar to Illustrator in that it is a primarily vector based program and Photoshop is a primarily Raster based program. This means that Firework's images are created with mathematical equations that create the lines (allowing them to scaled up or down infinitely) whereas a rasterized image uses pixels which has a set number of pixels wide and high that determine its resolution.

The reason you can select an object and move only that object in Fireworks is because the program knows to move every line associated with the equation of the object you clicked, but since in Photoshop everything is rasterized the program can not determine what is part of an object and what is not. Think of it like each pixel is its own object so in order for you to move many 'objects' you must first select the ones you wish to move.

Hope that answers your question.

Very good explanation, Isick! Smile

Lichomancer, it's frustrating at first but I promise you'll learn to love it. Smile
