I have a potential job that I'm planning to take if I can automate some of the process. Basically, there are 500+ photos which need to be cleaned up, cropped, etc. (this will be done manually). When finished each photograph needs to be saved in 5 different sizes in two-three resolutions per size (this is what I want to automate). Each file with a different size/resolution will be named based on the filename of the psd and its size/resolution.

I've played around with automating/macros but I know someone must have written an add-on for this. I have Photoshop 7, CS2 and CS3. Any ideas, recommendations?

may be you can use the batch

File>Automate>batch

you must make an action for every size & res. then apply it on the images using the Batch
