I have created a logo which is basically a orange tiger on a black background. I need to make the black background darker is there a way to do this for all the black in the image???

well ...
select the background layer then press Ctrl+U
and play with the hue, saturation & light values |

Or you could do a Levels (Image >Adjustments >Levels) command. In the dialog box that comes up, you'll see three eyedroppers. The left dropper sets the blackpoint. Simply click on the eyedropper, then click on the area of your image you want to be black.
