so i'm gonna ask you guys (PS is better anyway). I'm pretty sure this can be done in PS but i'm not good at doing logo type stuff... can someone tell me how to replicate/enlarge this to a 10' x 10'. I know illustrator does the whole vector thing and whatever but can't this be done is PS as well?
Any Help!?
...please! |

No, it cant be done as well in PS. It CAN be done, but you're going to have a very blurry image when you're done, to the point where it's not usable. Even the best enlargement plug-ins out there wouldn't handle that kind of enlargement well.
Better to wait for the Illustrator response. Sorry.

Do you happen to be new to Photoshop? I expect you to answer no, but I wouldn't be too surprised to hear a yes either.
It can be done, preserving high quality and sharp edges. It demands some efficient use of the program though. I will do this after doing some other daily notes, if I only remember to (curse my memory).
//Edit
I got it done along with my other duties.

No, I'm not new, but if I'm reading his post correctly, he's asking for an image ten FEET square (which is not unreasonable for Illustrator). That's 120 inches, or 14400% larger than your current image.
I would have to assume that anything that large would be for print. Even reducing the print resolution to 120 dpi to account for a longer viewing distance would necessitate an image that was 14,400 pixels square, or 207.3 mp.
It would indeed require efficient use of the program.

Right now I have a version of the file which is 6000x6000px @ 300dpi with edge quality shown below.
It wouldn't be too much of a hassle to pump it up to 60000x60000px @ 300dpi and keep the edge quality, but that I won't do for free. You (rexburg22re) can still get the 6000x6000 version for free, though, if you PM me.
Quality of the edge at 6000x6000px, zoom 100% |

I'm more interested in learning. Did you just re-create this from scratch or did you actually blow-up the image from what I had posted. My teach went to a PS seminar once and this guy was there and had a process where he could blow up any image without losing the quality. He didn't get the steps, and I'm not 100% it can even be done, but It'd be pretty sweet.
I probably should have posted this up as a challenge with a different photo but I figured this would have been simple enough and I could tell by the straight edges how pixelated it would be. VERY VERY nicely done if you blew up the original image... and still, if you re-created it, would you might explaining your process/tools?
Why I really want to learn how to do this is because I'm looking to re-create the Transformers Autobots logo Click on the image to view it at its original size
large enough to cut a vinyl sticker out and put it on a Toyota Truck i'm building... i can't find the picture reference again i was using but it would basically wrap the fenders and hood.... |

I re-created the whole image, as it was just optimum in time-expense. You can not blow up an image without losing quality, really, unless you re-create the image. The reason for this is the fact that you would be making more info to the image out of thin air which is in practice impossible, lest you rebuild it by hand.
If you want to print the logo shown above, I'd recommend just recreating it, as quality edges are very important in printing jobs. It's quite an easy shape, so I don't think you will encounter many problems.
Good luck. |
