Hello,

I have been using a couple of 21" inch trinitrons for a few years now. Recently I have been considering an upgrade to LCDs, but I don't know how they compare to trinitrons. Are trinitrons with the aperture grille technology still superior to LCDs? Or are LCDs the way to go now?

If LCDs are better now, which specs shold I be looking for? As susual, I will be using a dual set up. Print and Webdesign use.

I can't comment directly on LCD, as I am still using CRT monitors, but an important thing is to remember, that screens are one field of the market, where most of the times "you get what you pay for" applies. Expensive screens are usually worth their while.
If you're going for LCD, make sure it handles good at high refresh-rates and has good color distinguish abilities.

Well, I guess what I'm trying to find out is where on the scale of LCD monitors (from cheap to expensive) do Trinitrons compare. Given the quality state that LCDs are at nowadays, does a mid-range LCD outperform a trinitron? Or would you need to spend big bucks to get the same quality that trinitron gives.

hi my thoughts...
first... the best advice i can give is just go to a store that has a variety of pc monitors on disply and look at them!! also you going to get a lot of opinions on this subject.. smiling.....

that being said, i think the quality vs price, I think trinitrons are still up there with your better lcd's! in some case better.... although the price of lcd have come down quite a bit.. your better lcd i believe are still more expensive than your better crt's ! ....

things to consider...
1. i always consider dot pitch, to me there a big difference between monitor that has .25 (or below) and one that is .27!! lcs most of them are equilivent to .27 but a couple that claim to be in the .24 range...
note: that dot pitch is a big factor in sharpness....

2. viewing angle a big one.. crt not really a factor but lcd's still a factor... just not very wide...
3. brightness and contrast ratios.... your better lcd are i think just as good... as crt's
4, refresh rates..... crt are better and faster..... although your good lcd's have have made substantial improvements... maybe matching
5. now this may not be a issue for you... but for lcd's for there best quality picture.... you need to to use the native resolution of the lcd!!... lcd's don't have the flexability that crt have in using different resolutions... and still have a high quality display..!!

6. i am still a little leary about lcd's dead pixals .. if i go that route next time.. definitely look at the warrenty..... a few dead pixals (which lcd all have) will not justify a company to replace your lcd!! you have to have a substantial number of them in a given area...!

anyway... those are few thoughts... good luck on your choice!
