Hey guys, usually I don't ask for help, but now I really need it. I've been working on V3 of my website, and I'm a bit stuck on getting the edges of the headers right.

I am using 5 different header images, so I really need the edges to be smooth. Unfortunately (after fooling around with it for about 2 hours) I've given up all hopes. Right now the edges are pretty pixelish, and I want that to be gone.

I am using one of Razz's avatars at the moment, and when I build one myself I get pixelish edges as well. Razz however does know how to get them right.

So I hope Razz, or any others can help me out here.

Here's a header image to show you what I mean. Check out the corners. (Click the image for full size)

You can choose the rectangular tool (like in the aatar tutorial). Set the pixelamount for the corners and just click, drag and release. You will now have perfect borders. Make the rectangular just a little bit smaller then this image and put it over it. CTRL+Click on the rectangualar layer to select it. Press CTRL+SHIFT+I to invert the selection. Click on the image layers and then press delete.

I just did what you told me to do. I also checked out some other ways to create rounded corners. Unfortunately, my corners always turn out pixelish. I'm doomed... I just don't understand what I am doing wrong...

1. I load the image into a workspace
2. I create a new layer with a rounded rectangle
3. I click the image layer
4. I CTRL+right click the rectangle corner
5. I press CTRL+SHIFT+I to invert the selection
6. I press delete
7. I make the rectangle layer invisible and save the image as a .gif file.

Am I missing something?

It's probably because you save it as .gif. Try .png instead.

OMG, now it looks sweet!

What exactly is the difference between .gif and .png? All I know they both support transparency.

I'm not really sure. But .gif just saves the colors and it tries to use as less colors as possible to make the image as small as possible. Gif only support 256 different colors / image or something like that, so it's perfect for images with less colors, but photos and that kind of images with many colors should be saved in jpg eller png.
