3D Studio Books

Hello there,

I would like to teach myself how to use 3D Studio Max, i'm after some books that would be good for the newbie starting from the basics. Something with a step by step guide with tasks in it would be really good.

Max comes with a very good tutorials section including models spines and textures do them one by one

i use Max but ive heard MAYA is a good program and its free.........

Maya is not free. The PLE version is free, but it leaves a water mark and is not for commercial usage.
