Asian web page. Where to host?

Been doing a lot of web searching on Chinese web pages lately, and you would not believe how slow 99.9% of all the Chinese pages loads in my browser. Now this really worries me, because I'm moving to china next year and I'm going to establish a web-site down there witch I intend to reach out to an international crowd.

So....do you think that the reason that the sites loads so slow, are because the Chinese web hotel hosts are crap, or is it any other reason? Or let me put it this way: If you where to establish a site that you would want to reach out to primarily Asian people, but also in other continents, where would you host this site?? In what degree does server the location counts?

I think it's mainly because it's really far away. The shorter way the traffic has to go, the faster a page will load. And by long way, I mean many access points. I don't think their webhosts are worse then the rest of the worlds.

Hmmm....that was what i was thinking as well. But I've been to web pages in south america (and not to mention the US), and that doesn't seem to have any effect (time delay bacause of length away) at all!? Australien web pages also, seems to run pretty great in my browser....
