Can someone help me with actions

Hi,
I am new at Actions in Photoshop - I have CS. I downloaded some actions but when I click on them and press RUN - nothing happens. Am I just forgetting some crucial thing that I should be doing?
All the sites I've looked to for help seem to say that it should be so easy.
Can someone help me with this?
