Cannot Open a New Document

Postby Tobias on Thu Jul 05, 2007 7:28 am

When I try to open a new document, no New Document Window pops up. The computer is not frozen: the curser moves, and I can still open other programs and files on my desk top. However, I can do nothing in Photoshop. Evertime I try to click another button in Photoshop, it just beeps - as if there OUGHT to be a pop up window, and you cannot move on until you've selected something, but there is no window! What's going on? I have to force quit Photoshop to move on. Interestingly, I CAN open a JPEG in Photoshop, I simply cannot open a new document.

sounds like a time for a re-install to me. You could try clearing out the preferences file (not sure where 6.0 hides this file, cs2 puts in the in the 'c:\docs and settings\*username*\application data\adobe\photoshop\9.0\adobe photoshop cs2 settings' folder.

pressing ctrl+alt+shift (I think those are the right buttons) as photoshop launches will clear the preferences/settings etc. It can be tricky to press the buttons at the right time - you need to get in at the very start of the splash screen.

I didn't think that worked in versions older than CS? I could be wrong.
