Changing the tonal range of 1 layer in Photoshop
I am trying to create a children's textile/wallpaper design portfolio digitally and I'd like to know how to change a scan of a hand-painted motif into a tonal range of 1 colour in photoshop.
I discovered the duotone trick, but this changes the whole file (whilst flattening all layers), whereas I want the flexibility of being able to change the motifs on each layer to different colours
I've tried options in the adjustment bar, however these just add colour to the existing colour. Say I have a pink image and want to make it yellow, using the adjustment bar options always seems to keeps an amount of pink in it so it never becomes a true bright yellow, it will always have a browny tinge to it. Also the tiny colour wheel bar in the Hue/Saturation option isn't ideal at picking an exact colour.
My main aim is to try and incorporate my sketches & paintings into my designs, to allow me to work quicker rather than purely working by hand, so I want the flexibility of being able to easily changing colours as I create each design.
Any tips would be much appreciated as I seem to be going round in circles trying to figure out how to do this!!
Thanks in advance

Re: Changing the tonal range of 1 layer in Photoshop
hi
I think i understand what you want..... the first sentence sort of throw me off...
there a lot of different ways to change color........ but it depends on the image on what may work best...
could you post the wal paper your working on and get specific what your trying to acommplish with it....
in the mean time one meathod is take your brush, choose your color and change from normal mode to color mode....
another meathod.....
mask your object........
then put in a blank layer under neath your object layer and fill it with the color you want... and the adjust the opacity .... this meathod definitely allows you to easily try different colors ..
now that just a couple of ways and thier many more....
not sure that will work well with your project since a lot of time it depends on the image itself....
also take a look at this tutorial, it one of myfavorites for color correcting .. it shows about 7 ways....

Re: Changing the tonal range of 1 layer in Photoshop
hi,
been playing around with the basket... and if i understand, the whole basket will be one color instead of the two or three colors.. it presently is...
hopefully someone come up with a better solution....
I duped...
first i saturated to get a more definitiv lines....
and then did a selection of just the basket
i used the refine edge tool to improve the selection ...
and when finish i outputed to "new layer with mask" ...
I dup that mask layer.... so i have the orginal to fall back on if somethinggoes wrong or i need to make more dupes.. .. smiling...
also i put a white fill layer underneath ... although either a empty layer or some other color layer user choice....
now at this point.... the selection with the layer mask now i used the
channel mixer ....
i did it for one color and then dup the orginal again and set that up with another color ... and so on ...
when viewed the white background stay white and just the basket is changing colors....... as you change them ..
the main thing was get a good selection and mask, that the hardest... at least for me with this image.., after that everything else is easy ...
