clipping images

Hi
I want to clip round an image before importing to InDesign.
So far I've created a clicking path but the instructions then say to click on Make Work Path but this isn't highlighted and I can't get any further. I also can't see which tool to clip round with.

Any hints?

What do mean with "to clip"?
You probably meant "to select"...if that's the case:

Firstly you must know that there is no such thing as a "round image". All images are square or rectangular - some have transparent pixels, though. These pixels fool our eyes by hidding themselves - but they are there!
So what you need to do is to select a square/rectangle area. and use the copy paste command or drag and drop.

I am designing a book cover with InDesign.
I have made the cover of the book blue.
I have a photograph of the author, full length, which I want to "cut out" to stick on the blue.
At the moment, if I place the photo on the cover, I get the person, then the white background of this rectangular photo.
If I were doing this on paper, I would be clipping round the image of the person and glueing them on to the blue cover.
How do I do this in Photoshop? I realise from what you say that I must make those white pixels behind the person invisible or transparent. But how?
The InDesign guide says this must be done in Photoshop before importing.
