Color Management Issues. Help Please!

Postby Geekus_maximus on Tue Dec 30, 2008 10:06 pm

So, in the past, my settings have been fine. I am a digital photographer, and shoot in sRGB for smooth transition for web use, but New camera, and the same problem shows up. I am using north america general purpose, and use the sRGB ICC profile in the save as, then do a high quality, baseline optimized jpg.

I upload them, then they loose the majority of the saturation. If I take a screen shot of that SAME image, the .png is uploaded, saturation is in tact. I know this is an issue somewhere in my workflow. Help Please!

Here are the example pics!

Hi Geekus and welcome!

Okay, apparently you're using a non-color managed browser, otherwise the two images would look the same to you. I'm using Firefox with color management turned on and both images look the same to me. However, if I turn the color management off in Firefox, the .png image is definitely more saturated.

The problem is not with your .jpg image, it has the sRGB profile embedded and therefore looks about the same on my monitor with or without color management turn on in Firefox. The problem is with your .png image, it has a "Color LCD" embedded profile. That color space will not match the average monitor like sRGB will. So, on non-color managed browsers, it will look more saturated. Convert it's profile to sRGB and the two images will look the same (or at least very close) using your non-color managed browser.

Hope this helps.
