"Cool" Rainbow Effect over b/w picture

Postby TylerD on Mon Jul 06, 2009 12:25 am

Hi!

How can I get a really good looking rainbow effect over a black and white picture.
In the Versions I have tried the effect allways looks a little too 90ies. The colors are not strong enough and look "neon."

I have attached a file with the effect I am looking for.

The picture I want to use this on is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shiratski/2657934549/

How can I do this?

Yeah I did whipped one up pretty quick.

Here is how:

1) Create a new layer and place a rainbow of color there. I got my rainbow from the color pallet in Photoshop and just expanded it larger and twisted it.

2) Set that layer to Color Blend Mode

3) Make the opacity about 30% (lower if its still too "bright")

That's it!

Normally if you find that colors are too bright your best bet is to turn down either their saturation or the opacity of their layer (in this case the two would in essence be doing the same thing since the color below was Black and White)
