make a picture turn gradually transparent from left to right, for example the left hand side of the picture is normal, as you scan from left to right it gradually transparents into the base colour?

its prob really simple but i can't figure it out

Hi sezzy

Copy the Background layer, and paste into a new layer(this will unlock it). Turn off background layer. Then add a vector mask, to the new layer and then use the gradient tool(set to black and white).

There are probably easier ways, this worked when I tried it.

I agree, it is the easiest way, but you probably wanted to say layer mask, not vector mask, wasn't it?.
