creating an effect to appear as if metal was burning

I stumbled up this tutorial:

at the very end he makes the metal appear to glow, but he did not go into detail on how he did this. Could someone please help me out and give me some pointers on this awesome effect? Smile

there is a tutorial right at the bottom for making the smoke he also explained the glow is done with inner and outer glow not hard to mess about with them and he has used a layer mask to hide the inner and outer glow on the rest of the image apart from where he wants it

I am not that familiar with layer masks. I don't use them very much. Would I do the inner and outer glows with in the layer mask? Do I do the layer mask on the multi colored gradient layer?

well play with it and see best way to learn imo

you could always duplicate the layer the whole image befor you add the light and on the bottom text layer add the glows then rub out the top layer with a soft brush so the glow effects only show in the parts you have rubbed out hope this makes sence lol
