CS 8 cannot allocate memory for activation

CS 8 cannot allocate memory for activation

Postby CadillacPat on Sun Nov 01, 2009 12:31 am

Hi,
New guy here,
I have a copy of CS 8 that installs just fine on my brand new HP Pavillion desktop with 8 gig memory and 750 Harddrive.

When I open it the photoshop display opens but a window appears saying,"could not allocate memory for activation"

I've got 8 gigs of memory, of which 6.8 are free to use.

Any ideas,

When you say you have a "copy" of CS 8, what do you mean? Did you purchase a retail version of Photoshop and you're trying to install from Adobe's original DVD? Or, are you trying to install from some sort of "copied" DVD?

hi,
1. there is no ps cs8 ... now there is ps cs1 and that equates ps version 8 ...... right now the highest pshop version is ps cs4!! so could you clarify.....

2. also probably important what operating system are you using...?
vista or windows 7.... now i am assuming your using the 64 bit version.. if not let us know on that...

always remember lot of details is needed when stating a problem...

Sure Jerry,
When I said the PC is brand new I really meant "brand new",
I just bought it a couple of weeks ago when Windows 7 came out.
It has Windows 7 installed and it's a 64 bit PC.

The PS disk says PS v8.0
The disk came with a used monitor and printer I bought a couple of years ago.
When I tried to install it on my older PC running Windows XP Home EditionI got the same window saying,"could not allocate memory for activation"

My PS 6 installed and runs just fine,
But availability of free online styles and other visual goodies is very very limited for PS 6.
PS 7 and up offers many more styles I can download for creating images.

Any ideas??

hi,
it should run on xp/// that what i run is cs1 on my xp.....

not sure about windows 7... have to check on that....

you might try this with your cs1 on the xp system
Try deleting your preferences file. Start PS then hold Alt, Ctrl, and Shift and say yes you do want to delete the preferences file that will rebuild the file... i am thinking that the memory allocation in the preference is messed up and that should rebuild it....

hi
well i assume you already have cs1 on the new win7 machine then...

try the same trick about deleting the ps preferences... if that doesn't work...

then try using windows compatiblity install wizard reinstall cs1 and see
if that works

Hi Pat,

I still don't know if the disk you have is an original (genuine) Adobe install disk or a copy someone made. Is the disk in a case, with a serial number on it? If it appears to just be a copy, I don't think you'll be able to activate it. And, since you said "The disk came with a used monitor and printer I bought a couple of years ago", I'd sure be a little suspicious about it :-)
