Drawing a box with radius

Postby monkey64 on Sun Jun 25, 2006 1:19 pm

Well I have to admit that I'm a relative newbie to Photoshop. I've been using it for the last 2 years for photo editing. Now I have a design problem.

I have an image and I want to place a border round it. This part is easy as I can use the stroke command. However, this adds a rectangle, but I want a box with the corners radiused. I can do it by making a circle (new layer) and editing layers until it looks part decent. It's a bit of a bodge though.

There must be an easier way!
I feel quite an idiot, this must be so simple but I can't find the answer in any of my books. Any help would be gratefully received.

Hello monkey64 :)

I can think of 2 ways you can do that besides the one with the circle..
You can use the Rounded Rectangle Tool with Shape Layers + Create a new shape layer highlighted, fixed size and setting the radius as you like on one layer and placing the picture on a layer on top of it.

Or use the same tool with Paths + Create a new shape layer highlighted. Make a path around the image, then click the Paths tab and Stroke path with brush while the Brush Tool with the desired brush size is highlited.. Maybe I should write a tutorial with pictures, my description sounds confusing.
bahbye devppl :]
