I accidentally erased my valuable file and need it back now. it is on NTFS. What utility is the most reliable and efficient one? OS winXP

Maybe you can try Active@ Undelete. It's latest version even allows to boot with disk image and restore. It is powerful indeed.

I recovered succesfully some file after formating (which is worse than deleting) with filescavanger.
It is very important not to write anything on partition where you want to recover deleted files.

If you still have the problem you can try ARAX Disc Doctor. A very well crafted piece of recovery software.
