Exporting objects from max =/

Postby MaxMan » Wed May 19, 2010 4:19 pm

Hi! I am trying to program a small game, but I am having some trouble exporting my meshes. The problem is the coordinate system. I am using Pandasoft's .X export plugin to try and export the meshes that I have made. When I export the meshes, I get seemingly random results though. The first thing is that I have two objects that are aligned in the scene, but when I export, both of them come out as if they had different coordinate systems, facing different directions. I have tried going into the Hierarchy menu and rotating both of their pivots to be facing the same way, and I have also tried resetting both pivots, and clicking all the other buttons I could think of before exporting. I still can't fix the problem. The strangest problem is that when I export, one of the objects has flipped normals. Both of them look fine in max though.

if anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated =) I need to get this done pretty soon.

OK! Lets start with a clean slate, because I know exactly WHAT is wrong now, but not why. I attached the mesh and textures to this post. I get the same programs no matter which way, or where I export the mesh. The gun in the scene gets exported as having a right handed coordinate system, and the set of hands gets exported as having a left handed coordinate system. Also, the hands come out 5 times the size they should be, and for some reason when I hit Reset Pivot in the hierarchy menu, it sets the scale for the hands at -17% on all three axes. For some reason, max thinks the meshes are something other than what I see in the viewport, and I can't figure out why =(
Isn't there a way to reset the mesh somehow, and set it to be exactly as it is in the viewport? some way to erase whatever settings that max thinks I want applied to my models?

thanks again for any help on this
