I installed Linux PC OS 2007 onto my 500gb external harddrive but something went wrong somewhere and Linux wont boot up from it. That's ok I don't want Linux on there anymore I want to keep it to make backups of my system now and for a few other thnig but when I installed Linux it had to reformat the harddrive so when I plug it into my windows machine the installing drivers ballon pops up and that's it I can't get into format it becasue I don't think Windows is reconizing it because it was formatted for Linux any ideas on how to format it or anyone know if i'm doing anything wrong.
Go to Computer management and then to disk management, then right click hard drive and choose new partition/volume. If it doesn't work paste screenshot of disk management here.
If it is external drive connected by USB then you should see it under Removable storage in disk management (if you have drivers installed for it).
If you can't do anything from windows then boot from some linux live cd or something like that and erase all partitions of your external hard drive, then boot windows and format it.
I have the drivers installed but it formatted in something that I can't remember I checked it last night under device management, i'll do the linux live CD thing today when I come home from school. Thanks.
Do you have xp or vista? In xp you can access disk management through computer management, which can be accessed by right clicking my computer and choosing manage, or by typing diskmgmt.msc in Run dialog. I've never saw vista, but it should be about the same, try searching Vista's help for disk management.
