external style sheet with div layers

im a noob when it comes to css. i have done some surches on google but i still cannot find one that will help me incorperate div layers into my external style sheet. can anyone give me some tips or know of a good website that can help me.

i just want a simple layout with a div layer to the left for navigation one at the top for my header and bannner and a main one in the center for my content. and also can i use the layers with iframes?
