Fake Model Photo Effect

Postby cmdrico7812 on Fri May 11, 2007 5:15 pm

I would like to achieve the Fake Model/Miniature Effect as seen in this tutorial:
http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorial/Fake-Model-Photography/12504

The only problem is I'm using a very old version of Photoshop (6.0) which does not have the Lens Blur filter. Does anyone know how I can recreate the Lens Blur effect in 6.0? Much thanks in advance.

Hi Eric, and welcome to DEVPPL!

The bad news: There's really no way to duplicate exactly the effects of the lens blur filter in Photoshop 6.0. The filter adds dynamics to the blur filter that just aren't available in 6.0.

The good news: I did some playing aroun in my version of 6.0 (I used it for years), and have come up with a technique that comes close- with some images.

The technique involves applying the gaussian blur(Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur) filter, followed by the Median (Filter> Noise> Median) filter. The amount will depend upon the image resolution. In my experiments, I found that using the same amount in both filters produced the best results. However, that may not always be the case. You'll just have to experiment on your image, and see what works.

Hope this helps!

Medley,

Thank you taking the time to help. It really makes a huge difference. I was using just the Gaussian Blur before, but adding the Median really makes it pop. Thanks again!
