filling with objects

Postby bevilacqua on Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:42 pm

Hi all!

I have some experience with photoshop, but I never tried what I'm going to ask and I can't seem to find an easy and fast method.

I use photoshop CS4 and need to fill a region with some tree variants (seen from above) I have created. The problem is that if I select the area and fill with a previously made pattern, the trees get cut by the borders of the selected area and I get this regular borders that doesn't seem like the borders of a forest.
Is there a way I can get a pattern to be recognized as an object, such that when I fill an area with it and it comes to the border, it will be printed only if the whole object fits within the limits of the selection?

I have attached a file with an example.

hi,
i need to do a little experimenting but i would think... that if you convert the tree top to a brush..... you can then much easier control how close the the edge you get....

now you would need to be carefull to selecting the tree tops where yo don't cut thru the tops but once done then convert that into a brush and when apply, apply to a blank layer, well you pick tree brush and the color green and just paint that in... and you can easily avoid the edges of the overall selection that way ... if i get a chance tonight i'll experiment to see how well it come out for me.......

do you think that might work for you? i can't think of any other meathod that would work that would fit your criteria.... maybe someone else can hopefully they jump in ..

Thanks jerryb.

The problem with using a brush is that it would still be a slow method - I'll have a great number of files in which I must do it - and it wouldn't conserve the trees colors.

I'll keep trying to find a solution, but I'm almost done with my repertoire.
