firefox sees it, safari and netscape don't

Postby todd reed on Mon Jan 15, 2007 2:22 am

I have a small page located in my school index. Everything in basic html. Main page is index.html, and then there's half a dozen links to other html files, all located in the same index. When I view the page through firefox, everything works great, but with safari or netscape, the main page loads fine, but the links don't load.

I'm not an experienced programmer, and there's really nothing fancy about the site, i tried to keep it as basic as possible.

The other funny thing is that one of the links does load fine, and I can't tell any difference whatsoever between that file and the ones that don't load.

Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

Firefox is (as far as I know) the only browser that ignores errors in HTML. That's why it opens up in Firefox only, and not in any other browser.

I've checked with IE6, and it does not show the correct information, just as you said.

Hold on for a moment, I'll try to locate the most important error.

Your <title></title> section should be within the <head></head> tags. I think that's the most important thing that causes trouble here.

Just a little tip though: If you're not too much of an advanced HTML coder, you might write all tags in capitals, like <TITLE>, or <HTML>, or <P>, or <BODY>. This makes the tags easier to recognize and makes troubleshooting a bit easier.

Yes, thanks,

Silly me, it was simply a lurking error in the title tag. I would have caught that a long time ago if it weren't for the fact that i built the whole thing in firefox and thought errors like that were well taken care of.

cheers.
