Giving my drawing a "Glossy Shine"??

Postby tenover on Wed Jun 06, 2007 12:07 am

Using Photoshop CS2....
I make surfboards, and do preliminary drawings in Photoshop with colors and whatnot. Is there a way, when I'm done with the drawing, to put a "shine" on the drawing to make it look like a shiny, glossy/glassy, polished board? Almost like maybe choosing where a light would be shining on the board? Thanks.....

This is a techinque i mostly use on my fantasy drawings but I'm guessing it will work just as well on surfboards.

First of all get out your flattened image of the surfboard.
Duplicate this layer and go filter>blur>gaussian blur and drag the radial blur slider so that no details are visible. Then go edit/fade gaussian blur by pressing ctrl+shift+f. Leave it at 100% opacity, but change the blend mode from normal>screen. (Changing the blending mode of the layer to screen as well, will multiply this effect)
Click ok.
Do the same routine again but this time, instead of screen as blend mode, make it soft glow.
Now I'm guessing you've got to much glow, you can accomodate for this by changing the opacity of the 'glow' layers on the layer palette or using the erase tool (I do not reccomend using the eraser tool though).
Good luck :)
