Help out an Illustrator newby?

Help out an Illustrator newby?

Postby Revision12 on Fri Nov 27, 2009 10:35 am

Hi there, I usually post on the Photoshop board but I recently also got Illustrator.
I been using Photoshop for quite a while, and am particularly familiar with the pen tool (I love vector style) but since moving to Illustrator it seems that I'm a lot worse than I was.

I'd love if someone could explain to me things I need to consider in Illustrator different to Photoshop. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense, it's too early in the morning for me.

The kind of style I go for is similar to the likes of Jared Nickerson and 123klan...

Hi there its not a case of using illustrator instead of photoshop you should use them in partnership with eachother it makes like much easier, the only advice i can give is do some illustrator tutorials after a few you will have the basics down the rest you will figure out as you go

Maybe I phrased it badly Raven, I'm not looking to replace Photoshop with Illustrator, and I fully intend to use them in conjunction with each other.
My problem is that before I could afford to buy Illustrator I used Photoshop's pen tool to improvise a vector style. I became extremely proficient with it but for some reason those skills now don't seem to be transferring in to Illustrator's pen tool.

What problem are you having with the pen tool in illustrator? I do know that it's extremely sensitive when you try to click on anchor points. You have to work zoomed in when using the pen tool in Illustrator.

Illustrator took me some time to get used to. didnt like it at first compared to photoshop. I agree that you should familarize yourself with the pen tool settings, and tutorial yourself like crazy. :)
