Aren't they teaching you in class? Anyway, this is really easy. I'll give you a step by step right now of how to do this assignment.
0) after you find the stock image you want to use, you need it to have that pop culture, warhol look. Mess around with filters until you have something you like.
1) create a new image that is XXX px by XXX px where XXX will fit the image you are using evenly. (ie. your stock image is 300px by 300px, make your piece 900px by 900px)
2)select the entire canvas of your stock image (ctrl+A or apple+A) and copy it to the clipboard (ctrl+C)
3) go to your project and paste (ctrl+V) the image on a new layer. Repeat however many times (9 times for my example--9 layers with an image on each one)
4) position them with the move tool so that its a 3x3 grid and the entire canvas is covered.
5) on each layer, adjust the color (ctrl+u) and maybe make other adjustments (image->adjustments) so that each layer looks different.
6) save the thing in psd and another format and turn it in.
If you have basic photoshop knowledge this should be easy for you. If this is too much for you, search google for photoshop tutorials to learn the basics about layers and using the basic tools. You need to learn those things if you're going to be using the program. best of luck to you.
