Help with Text asap!!

Hey all New to the forum. nice forum so far. I need to know how to cut out text. I have a green square and I want to cut out the middle of it to make a word. Please tell me how to do this. thank you so much asap.

Put the text you want on the square where you want it to cut out. Outline the text. Select the outlined text and the square together. Under the Pathfinder palette, use the divide tool. The select 'ungroup' until the objects are fully ungrouped. Then select the pieces of text and delete them.
