Hi Guys.

THanks for your efforts but nothing has changed. Just for completeness I have also restored my PS settings to default. which has changed the mode to normal, and looked at the Photoshop 101 link and gone down the channel mixer route, the issue there is that in the example there is a history line called Image Size where the brush Icon is placed, and underneath that is Channel mixer, when I do this the history only says 'open' then 'channel mixer' I still think it has something to do with the fact that in the Navigator pane I show a b/w image whereas everyone else seems to have colour and in the layers pane I also have a b/w image and no brush icon next to the 'eye' symbol. I think the history brush is accessing the b/w image not the colour image, hence no change.

UPDATE: not sure what I have done but the problem is now solved! THanks guys.

hi nikon,

a wrong misinterpretation on what my pallet shows...

when i desaturate.... on that background preview layer, that preview picture turns to grey scaled!!!

when you first open the image... and before you saturate is the a full color preview?
and while looking at it you then desaturate does it change

if it sounds like a little redundancy..smiling..it probably is...but when you can't find a answer you end up double checking everying and each procedureal step

the color you see in the preview... is only showing where i have used
the history brush to bring back the colrs...

comming back to that mode window there next to opacity there at the
top of the main screen... why don't you try different modes...
i found on some it just stays grey or a lighter shade come thru
and other really saturate or what ever.. smiling..
