HOW CAN MY SITE ADJUST IT'S DISPLAY FOR DIFFERENT VIEWERS?

Postby magnetman on Thu Mar 22, 2007 3:28 am

I just created my first site and it works pretty well, except it is too wide on small monitors. It is 900 wide and I was wondering if there is a code I can put in there that will automatically adjust its display values (h&w) depending on the different monitors and displays each individual viewer has.

any thoughts are much appreciated!

I'm afraid you don't present enough information to allow us to make any conclusions at this point. Is your site done in HTML (I am assuming)? Also, a link or some source code would help us get a better feel as to your approach in the site design. Otherwise there are just too many variables that would prevent us from drawing any accurate conclusions as to what you can do to fix the issue.

You are able to resize your content using css by using percentages instead of fixed height and width. If you want to use a fixed height and width, there are JavaScript functions which will detect a browser's size, but each browser uses a different function for getting the sizes so you end up with a lot of nested if statements.

Here are a couple sites, one using 100% width and the other 100% height. (the height is harder to implement) These are just examples though, to figure out which one would work the best, we would need to see how your site is arranged.
