It looks to me like all he did (the guy who made 'that') was took a picture of a shelf or something and erased part of it. So in order to make 'that' just find a picture of shelf, erase part of it (using the eraser tool), and make it super dark (using brightness/contrast).

In order for you to get a straight answer how to make something we need to know exactly what that something is...

The Effect

Postby coxdabd on Tue May 29, 2007 8:52 pm

Thank you for your message. Perhaps the photograph I posted wasn't the best example of the effect I would to accomplish there is. I have however included the following picture with the hope of this being a much better example.

I see, you want a dirtied/faded/torn effect.

The way I would do it is I would find a texture of scratched metal or something (I recommend this site: http://www.mayang.com/textures/ ). Then, once you have the right image, you put it over the text or whatever you want to look dirty and set it to one of the following blend modes depending on the color of the text and style you are looking for:
- Hard Light
- Multiply
- Screen
- Luminosity
- Color

Effect Accomplished!

Postby coxdabd on Wed May 30, 2007 8:58 am

Hello there (Isick),

Thank you all very much for your help, guidance and assistance but a special thanks for 'Isick' for he/she was my main source of inspiration. I have now, I believe, accomplished the effect I set out to do by using a wall texture; adding black and playing round with the blend modes and opacity.

THe effect I've created is below:

Thank you all very much indeed,
