To make a Gradient Mask

* Click on Chalet layer to make it active.
* Open Layer palette, and click on Layer mask symbol (dotted circle) to add a layer mask.
* Go to Tool palette, and select Graduation Tool, by Alt+Clicking on Paint Bucket.
* In Bar at top of page select Linear gradient.
* Set Foreground/Background colours to Black/White.
* Make Layer mask active, by clicking it in the layer palette.
* Now drag the Gradient Tool cursor from left to right on your picture to get a gradient mask (or right to left if needed).
* Experiment with where you start and stop the drag to get the blend transition you want.

I got this from this forum:

ok so basically place all the pictures you want blended in the same photoshop file (all as different layers). Then all you need to do is simply overlap them a little bit. That technique i pointed you to doesn't put white over the image, but rather makes it a transparent gradient. Anything you put below the gradient part will gradually show up like in your example photo.

Hopefully that makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't.

hi,
a novice myself but a coulple of ways I would do this and many others ways.. ...

1. use your marque tool, set feather to 20 or 30 or what ever, then do a copy and paste into your main image, youshould see the them blend together like your example ..

2. another meathod i use sometimes..... place all the pic into the single project, and on one or more of the images add a layer mask , adjust your opacity, flow and type of brush to suit... and then paint black along the edges...

Select the amount of each image you want to blend on the right and left sides using the rectangular marque tool. Then press Ctrl + Alt + D, set the feather between 10-20, press ok.

Now hit delete, it doesn't get everything straight away hit delete again. Then just make sure the feathered layer is above your other image and overlap.

key things:
1. make sure you are doing the transparent gradient on the layer mask itself and not the actual layer. and make sure you are using black and white for your colors in the gradient.
2.using the car and the tree pictures as an example, the car should be overlapping the tree and then used the transparent gradient on the right side of the car pic. You do not want to do it to the left side of the tree pic because then you will see white in the background.
3. the picture has to overlap enough so you don't see the white background. Try messing with your gradient size if you need to see more picture.
