How do I make a white background transparent?

Postby redmask on Wed Jul 18, 2007 6:43 am

I have a newbie question.

I have a picture of a logo with a completely white background, how do I make the white background transparent. Please explain in a simple step by step process if possible.

It's pretty. Open up the picture in photoshop. Hit ctrl + alt and copy the whole thing.
Hit ctrl + n (new file) Set background to transparrent (leave size (should be set to the clipsize) and all the others at default).
Then remove the white background. If it's on one layer (as a background layer) just delete this layer.
Othere ways if it's a simple logo you should be able to pick out the white with the magic wand tool and then just hit delete.

When you done, and removed the white backgound you go file>save for web and save it as .gif .jpeg or .png
