How do I put one object in behind another in a Photo

Postby Derm » Thu Sep 02, 2010 2:24 am

I have a scene with a motorbike in it & I would like to put a person standing (or look like) they are standing behind it. I would be happy to just cut them off in line with the seat & tank of the bike, the legs do not need to show through below.

hi,
like idad mentioned every image is different and the issues that might come up in doing ceretain things... and it always good to have the pictures to look at/work with... sometimes experimentation needs to take place to figure what the best way..

now this is just a general basic work flow... there several variations...
1. bring in your bike picture
2. create blank layer...
3. then select and copy just the bike and paste that it own layer ...

4. now open your person's picture new window and select and copy just the person you want...
5. then paste that into you blank layer of the bike image....
a. you may need to transform and do a little adjustment to get the perspective just right.

6. at this point it will look like the person is standing behind the bike ...

othere things you may have to do to make it more realistic... slight bluring of edges , maybe curve/color adjustments. etc..

anyway those are my thoughts..

OK jerryb thanks a lt for your time. I was sort of thinking about that, just thought there may be another way. I am lazy, I have the person cut out which took a little bit of time. I just was wondering if there was a quick way to get the bike out of the photo but I guess I will just have to do the work & cut it out. I suppose the more I practice that procedure the quicker I will get, thanks again, Derm.

hi,
I am lazy also...lol.....

as far as selecting the bike.. there several meathods to do that that why many times if we had a a image to work with can try the various meathods and see which one works best... for example
1. you have your magic wand
2. use your pen tool
3. channel masking
4. calculations
5. sometimes using color matching...

those are some of the basic ways... many time i'll use a combination of meathods...
also depending on what version of photoshop you have.... there a feature called refine edge which can help..

in the future , if you need a file share site to link to a image your concerend with this is a nice one it free no registration and easy to use...
