Hello. I'm trying to replicate some cool graphic effects found on the cover artwork of some CDs, and I need someone to point me in the right direction.
First of all, I wonder if you guys now how to create the sort of scratchy texture on the words "DONT LOOK DOWN" in this graphic.
I suspect that it's a simple matter of overlaying a graphic of the scratchy texture over the top of the words and then using some layer blend or another. If so, do you guys know of any resources where I can find scratchy-looking graphics for this purpose?
Next, is this image:
I wonder if you guys would know how to create what appears in this graphic to be paint brushstrokes or whatever would be a good way to describe the texture over the blue and orange part of the picture. I'm only guessing that this image was created digitally. I could be mistaken, and this picture could actually have been a physical painting, but I imagine the effect could still be replicated in Photoshop. If it's a simple matter of overlaying a layer of a textured graphic, like I speculated about the last image, I wonder if you guys could point me to a resource for textured graphics like this.

| UHH, your links send me to the source code. You could use brushes in Photoshop to add these effects. Search Google for Grunge Brushes or Scratch Brushes and you should get a wide assortment. |

| NM, I had to right click the link and use the target location in order to get to the image. Yea, It looks like a scratch brush effect. |

i agree for the second picture, use brushes and maybe a noise filter for a few more specs.... umm, could you repost a link for the text picture, because i can't see it for the life of me, i've tried 4 different ways, and still can't view it  , unless it's the same question as the second picture, then brushes are the way to go.

Thanks for the responses. I'll have to try your suggestions for the grunge brush.
The images are now being sourced from Photobucket, so hopefully the paths won't be broken anymore. Unfortunately Photobucket resized both images, so the lettering in the first image might be a little hard to see. Just squint at it. |

OK, yes, i found that using an image that has been threshholded and the background deleted, then set as a clipping mask and blending option set to soft light, will also accomplish this effect, besides grunge. This effect was used in the "american Pie" logos and film titles, if you look closely at mine, the image in the background is of an 'oil rig' searched from google.com's image search.
Simple process, nice effect.
