How do you make a photo one color??????

I'm trying to figure out how to turn a photo to just one color (or I should say monochromatic colors) like the photo I posted. I've tried playing with filters and even added another colored layer on top and blended it in, but it never comes out looking so good. I see graphic designers doing this and it looks beautiful! Could some one please explain to me how I can get a photo to look like this picture? Thanks so much!

hi,
well just a novice my self...
but what i would do
1. make a duplicae layer of the image.....
2. then desaturate it (i only have cs1 if you have a higher version they haveother meathods to do the same thing.... like i know cs4 you have a black and white layer you can add don't know about cs2 or 3....
3. then i would really cleanup the the greyscale image for the best sharpness and contrast..... bottom line a nice black white image...
4. then i would add a fill layer above that with the color i want and change the opacity ...

that would be what i would do.. there probably a lot better ways to do it... but i am still learning.... lol

Open image in PS, duplicate.

Go to Image - Adjustments - Hue/ Saturation.

In the Hue /Saturation box, click on Colorize.

Play around with the sliders until you get the look you're after.

Click OK.

Done.

that image as also got a gradiant over it you can do the same by using the gradiant tool on a new layer and then lowering the opacity untill ya get it right.

if the image your trying to make 1 color is black and white ya can do the whole look just by putting a orange gradiant over it like i said above with out messing with the image its self

Thank you, thank you, thank you! All of your suggestions are GREAT! I FINALLY have something that looks similar to the picture. The gradient suggestion is wonderful too! I know I have to play at it a little but I'm going in the right direction!!!!! Thanks so very much guys!!!!!!!
