How to create embroidery effect in Photoshop?

Postby EmbroideryEffect on Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:30 am

Hi all,

I've searched and found this tutorial but followed the instruction and been unable to successfully create. Step 7 is where i'm stuck. I can't select invert. Could you help?

hi,
i just went thru the tutorial to see if the authur maybe skip something however
wa able to do the tutorial with out a problem....

so.....now step 7 call for holding down the contrl key and with yur cusor on the text layer, in the pallet , you click!! what that does is to select the text that you type earlier...
with it being selected then you can do the "inverse"

overall you should have 3 layers with the bottom one a fill layer the 2nd layer being your text and the third alyer being a fille layer with all the bluring and noise and stuff you did..

Hi again,

I did follow the instructions a few times and when I "Ctrl" click on the text layer I went to "Select" then to inverse it's grayed out. I can't hit inverse. That's when I'm stuck everytime :-(.

My inverse at Select is grayed out.

Thank you for your help.

hi,
it sounds like your not getting the text selected and that why "inverse" is greyed out..

so i am wonder when you do the ctrl+ clic on the text layer in the layer pallet
do you see the dancing ants around the text? you should!! if not then it not getting selected... not sure why maybe your not quite click in the right place... but try this

just click on the text layer, that the alyer that active, and then use your magic wand with a large toleraces and no feathering... make sure contigious is unselected, then click on anything out side the the text... with accomplish the same thing as what step 7 trying to do , and then go to select inverse and click it...

just don't forge to the click the top layer... and proced to finish the tutorial

Hi,

I've attached the print screen of what I've come up. I got to step 9 but still didn't work.
I trust it Overlay on layer 1 meaning Blend Mode to Overlay? If so, still doesn't work.

Thank you again.

hi,
after you had selected the outline of the text(that what step 7 is all about) ... it will task you to then go to your top layer (your layer 1) and hit the backspace key.... make sure you hit that backspace key ,thast should whipe out everything except what selected!! and the you do the overlay blending to blend ...

remember.. all you were doing in step 7 was just to select the text......
what your doing in step 8 deleting everyting that outside of the selection...!!! and then apply your overlay ...

wasn't sure about what the backspace key is... but i think it to delete everything outside of the primary selection..... because that what it ends up doing...

Hello again,

I tried and got all the steps successfully done. Except, where it says Voila! the final product didn't turn out at all. I am still at awe that this is simple and yet I haven't been able to make it.

Please refer to the screen shot of the step 9 i've done

Maybe I am still missing something else? Could anyone create the psd file and send it to me so I can see it please? Use free uploading.com for your convenience.

Thank you so much.

hi,

your probably just overlooking one word.. i ran into that a couple of times smilies

do you have a throwaway email address? i send it to you...

i have attached a screen shot..... just click to see the full view ..

important points...
1. you'll notice the text is selected, those little dancing/dotted ants..
2. in my layer 2 (top layer)... the background is gone, this should appears when you hit that backspace key.....
3. all that left in layer 2 will be just the part that was selected in the text layer!
