How to do Bitmap to Vector???

Postby ebo0763 on Tue Jul 31, 2007 5:06 am

With my flat, unicolor, raw bitmap shape layer: I want to put this effect:

Bevel and Emboss: Technique: Chisel Hard

But because of the pixels of the bitmap, it doesn't give me a nice flat texture, there is some bumps...

I'm sure it would be nice with a vector layer. Can you help me?

...

as it is a bitmap, the nice smooth vector layer simply doesn't exist. And to create one you are always going to be guessing. The best ways to do so would probably be:

1: increase the resolution, the resampling should ensure it blurs the edges in a bit - you may need to apply a blur filter to smooth this out, then adjust to get back a solid line

2: select the area, go to 'paths', click the little arrow and select 'create work path'. A value of 1 should ensure all pixelation is taken care of. Then right click the path and select 'fill' (might have to select then fill) to give it a solid colour again.

Well.. that should give you a smooth path, although you will loose sharp corners etc, which may or may not work Ok with your image.

If that doesn't work, then you're probably going to need to redaw it.

There is no such thing as vector layer. It is always a raster.
