How to 'fill' a simple image outline?

Postby Pipps on Sat Aug 01, 2009 10:01 am

I am new to Photoshop 7, and have been spending a long time trying to work out how to fill a simple image. I figured that the learned experts on this forum would probably be able to help me much more quickly!

I have a simple circle with a dot in the middle:

I would like to make the two black areas of this image change to red. If I used MS Paint, I would just use the simple 'fill bucket' tool to click on both areas.

But how do I do this in Photoshop? None of the options in the 'Edit > Fill' menu seem to produce the desired result!

I look forward to any replies. Thank you.

I would recommend the bucket tool in photoshop to.

It can be found under the "Gradient tool" on the tools window. Simply left click it and hold for a second or two.

If the black areas were on their own layer (no white) you could simply add a red 'color overlay' LAYER STYLE.

Mac's "Remove White" is a brilliant little plugin. Once you make that white background transparent, you can do whatever you want with that graphic.

Oh my goodness! I think I have just found the paint bucket tool! I right-clicked on the gradient tool, on my tools toolbar, and then I saw the option. I play around with it, and it works just like the traditional paint bucket of old, from Microsoft Paint! Yipee!

But the 'remove white' plug-in is even better, and answers even more of questions, and solves problems which I knew I would soon have, but hadn't even encountered yet! What a brilliant plug-in! Thank you for the marvelous recommendation! :)
