How to Restore History Palette

Hi,

After making several adjustments to an image I clicked the icon in the history palette to view the original image. I highlighted part of the image and then noticed that it cleared the history. I tried hitting ctrl+alt+z but it won't do anything. How do I undo one step to get the history back?

preference>Performance>History&Cache set it there
as far as where it went, could you have over stepped it and reset? if so it is probably gone
