I am getting a "broken" icon when I go to edit

Postby nikonf4shooter on Fri Jun 15, 2007 3:28 pm

Some of my older files made with a 5 mp point and shoot show a thumbnail, but when I go to do an edit, it comes up with an icon like broken film and the message says something about your file is shortened or something like that. My questions: Is this fixable? Will my backup dvd disc be able to restore this properly? I am fairly new, and I am worried I have lost some precious jpegs. Any help is much appreciated. Oh by the way I am using Elements 5, though these files were started with elements 2 or 3.

Maybe you could give us the exact error message....? Or even better: a screenshot.

Sounds to me like the file has saved the preview but the atcual file is corrupted... this could be due to things such as the file being interrupted half way through saving, or the file has been corrupted somewhere.

Sometimes you will find that you can open these files in different places and re-save. Try opening/importing it into anything you can think of.

If that doesn't work, then I don't believe there is much you could do - the information simply doesn't exist.
