images next to ads is it legal?

Postby jonespr on Thu Mar 01, 2007 3:15 pm

I have been reading around the internet the last couple of days now, and now I got a headache.

I hope someone can clarify if or if not its “legal” to put images next to ads, I have seen so many websites placing small images right next to ads, and its looks very indented, that the small images is to drag attention to the ads.

Now I have read a couple of news about Google saying they won’t allow it.

I don’t want to point out examples of websites doing this, because I have a hunch that is not allowed, and wont be the one telling.

And a side question if it is legal. Does it have any effect? Do anybody have good experience with it?

I don't know if it's legal or not, I've heard both.

But I've heard many success stories of it, it should increase the CTR pretty much.

Why would it be illegal? If you have a legitimate website that isn't search engine spamming, what is the harm in drawing more attention to your advertisements?

and what if they're third-part advertisemnts?

Well, my thoughts came up after reading this statement from google.

http://adsense.blogspot.com/2006/12/ad-and-image-placement-policy.html#

it seems like google can ban for doing it.

but I may misinterpret it?

I think it's more of an issue whether who the image rights belongs to. If the owner of the image take offends with the usage he/she can also pursue the matter.
