Importing Vector Graphics?

Postby Markustay on Tue Jun 19, 2007 8:06 pm

Hi, I'm new here.

I've been using PS8 for about a year now, and mostly been using it to create maps. I'm self taught, using several decent tutorials on the web. Recently I started creating my own Map Icon set and have been learning how to use the vector graphics to do so. I've found several good vector graphics (.png file format) on the web and my question is this -

How do I import them into my custom shape set?

I can open the .png file in PS, but the "Define Custom Shape" choice is greyed out, no matter what I do. I read something about having to 'rasterize' the image, but I thought if it was already in vector format that was not neccesary.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You ---- Mark

I believe that to define a custom shape, you have to have a selection active. So open your .png, use it to create a selection, then go to edit - define custom shape. Seems kinda silly, but that is how i have always had to do it.

I tried several times and it still wouldn't work.

Then I hit "Make Work Path from Selection" and got it.

I don't understand why they don't just make it so you can load files directly into a 'user folder' and be done with it.

Thanks for the help.
