Improvement Suggestions Needed

Postby Tim.L on Tue Jan 16, 2007 11:13 pm

I need some improvement suggestions for http://www.timsfreestuff.com. It's not supposed to be the most professional website in the world, but still, any critisisms you have would be most welcome.

I would also like suggestions for new content as there's not really much there at the moment.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to DEVPPL.

I suggest you make the text smaller. Maybe you can make a nice logo instead of the one you are using in the top. If you want to be 'modern' in your design, make a 'Web 2.0' -logo (as they're called).

If you have Photoshop, take a look at this video tutorial to see how it could be done.

Here's a cool link of some guy that has remade a few well-known logos to this web 2.0 -style. LINK

Maybe you should do something to that booring menu you are using, maybe you could use tabs or something else fun from this site.

Good luck, and keep us updated with your results.

Thanks for your suggestions webmaster. I agree with you on the text size thing, I changed it because someone suggested to me before that it was too small, but I think it's better like that so I guess I'll be changing it back

That logo tutorial link you gave me looked really great! I'll definately be having a play around in Photoshop later!

I was also unaware that you could make such professional looking menus just with HTML and CSS, I always thought they required some form of JavaScript programming. I'll have a play around with the code and see what I can come up with!

Thanks again!

Abit of topic, but i was wondering about keyloggers. I always worried that if i downloaded one it would log my typing without me knowing and i would just think i could log others typing. I think they are realy intresting and want to try one but how can i be sure it wont do this. :|

Back on topic, the layout of the website is basic and not very modern but it displays the information you want to get accross so people will go straight to it... which is what you want. Maby try spice it up with a more modern header, a background colour ? and just abit more colour in genral.

Tomi: If you download the keylogger from my site you can tell it when to start and when to stop recording. After you have started it you can hide it any time you like so no-one else can see it and when you get back to the computer you can make it visable again and tell it to stop recording, so it wouldn't log what you are typing.

I think this is true of other keyloggers I have tried but I cant tell you about specific keyloggers.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am working on a new logo and menu system as we speak!
