IMROVE FONT CLARITY

I'm a beginner to Photoshop, I just want to know more about the use of character and paragraph pallate window? When i use the paragraph pallate the align options in the right side seems to be disabled, why is that? Also how can I improve the font clarity when i give the option None? Please anyone can help me to solve this prob????

After applying text in "none" mode, just select the text again once it is selected just go to option widow for text(none) and change it there are plenty of other ways but that's quickest
